You may be able to match the Epoxy to the wood by drawing on grain with a fine permanent marker. You might want to keep the remover off the Epoxy and sand any finish off it. Wrap the wood in aluminum foil after the remover is applied and let it sit for a while. Worse yet, it can soften the woods surface, requiring sanding to get to good wood. Oven Cleaner is Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) and can be very corrosive to your body (nose, eyes, fingers). I will try and get those posted tonight but it is getting kind if late so they may wait until tomorrow. I do have some pictures to add so that anyone with ideas knows exactly what I'm working with. The action locks up tight and fires really well so I'm not worried about having to re-work any of the action. With those questions out of the way, I will say the gun will be used for skeet shooting, as well as grouse, pheasant, and waterfowl hunting. How effective can I expect the Casey cold blue to be on the barrels once stripped? If all else fails, I know I could use some high temp paint on them as I did a set of truck wheels with similar paint and they have held up REALLY well through constant use. Would stripping the stock finish run the risk of ruining the repair? The repair is part of why I don't expect a million dollar product out of this project in terms of the stock.ģ. The stock looks like it had been damaged and was repaired with some epoxy bedding compound. Is there anything that anyone could recommend to do the stock that might be more effective than oven cleaner? Oven cleaner really stood out because of the results I had seen on a very similar project. If I were to go through with the project, I see myself stripping the stock and fore grip with oven cleaner (I saw where someone used it and it stripped the old finish off completely) and using some Casey bluing and rust removed on the barrels before using Casey bluing to redo them. Now, I know these weren't high dollar shotguns so I don't expect I would wind up with something as good looking as a high end gun. I've done some looking around online as far as restoration ideas and I have been considering a restore project on this particular gun. Hi all, I recently picked up a Boito double barrel SxS and aesthetically, it's kind of rough. ![]()
